Dancing Darkness

Dancing Darkness

A Poem by Kat Collins

Shadows, shadows everywhere

Creeping up and down the wall

Glowing green eyes staring at you

Changing colors of the rainbow

Dancing, prancing reaching out

Coming to get you they say

Cackling, laughing, teasing you

Passing by the way

Coming closer, closer yes they dare

Reaching out to grasp your hair

Your toes curl in

Your knuckles tighten white

Your eyes, bulging with fright

Shall I scream, you think

Casting glances as you shrink

No, you say, I'm bigger than that

I'll shout and yell to get them out

So up you stand, flinging covers wide

"Get out, get out!" you yell at the shadows

"I'm bigger than you! My God is bigger than you!"

You scream and stomp and flail your arms

Suddenly you stop.

It's quiet.

Breathing hard you lay back down

Assured now that the dancing darkness is gone

Peaceful and deep you fall asleep

No more tossing and turning, but soundly dreaming

But deep in the corners, waiting for the dark night

Waiting until your slumber is deep

Glowing green eyes are watching you

Eager to dance again.

Well this Shadow may not dance nor have green eyes but he still enjoyed your poem, the darkness aches so oft' to disturb our sleep and our very peace of mind, day breaks making shadows longer or should that be linger but always at the whim of it's light for in total darkness are they too consumed, they dance to the tune of another man's drum, God overshadows all with his hand readily protecting those that ask. Love the poem, keep em' coming
