I Fear the NightA Poem by Rhys JacobsA very honest take on my fear of dark places, written shortly after a nightmare I had.
It is not the darkness
that I fear, nor the danger inherently present in every shadow. No, I fear myself and my mind, for in its midnight reverie, it will formulate equivocal truths and steadfast lies. When pillow tackles skull, it is not peace but conflict that finds me. Morpheus has forsaken me and left my mind to ponder action and Word. The curtain on my window conceals the darkness, but still, I fear the night. The hinges of my door may lock away mortal man yet still, I fear the night. Even in my well lit room with lantern upon desk and post, I still fear the night. For in the night I become my own worst enemy. A doppelganger and changeling, deceiving logic and confounding wisdom, killing an infant hope for a better life and an everlasting love. © 2013 Rhys JacobsReviews
