Louigi Ouija Board

Louigi Ouija Board

A Story by Karl Herzog
"

A group of college friends try Ouija board for Halloween on to end in disaster but not the kind of supernatural disaster you expect.

"
CHAPTER 1 " I’VE NEVER PLAYED OUIJA

“I’ve never played with a Ouija board before. Sure, I’ll give it a go.”
Catalina, the ‘Ruby Rose look-a-like girl in Matilda’s Soccer T-Shirt dropped the box of Cheezles as she slid off the couch onto the floor and joined the small circle of friends dressed for Halloween. Catalina the Soccer Fan was dressed as a….Soccer Fan while the others chose characters from Harry Potter. The Host of the party, was Carlo, dressed as Harry Potter and like the character he was about to lead the Ouija board session. Brushing his long, dark brown fringe from his black rimmed round glasses he spoke up.

“Okay everyone, place a finger on the shot glass which will be the indicator. Take a deep breath and we all say ohmmmmmmmmmmm.”

The party of five did what they were told and hummed in unison. The group of eighteen- to nineteen-year-olds closed their eyes, fingers lightly on the shot glass that stood on top of the cartoonish looking Ouija Board. Carlo, continued.

“Spirits of the north, south, east and west I call upon you now to open the door.”

A moment of silence before Carlo asked the question.

“Are there any Spirits…”

Carlo’s opening ritual was interrupted by a sudden flood of light and sound coming from his left. A door had certainly opened alright but not the door he expected. In the doorway of the connecting dining room was a short, silhouette of a sinister figure.

CHAPTER 2 " OCCULTIST INTERRUPTED
In the doorway stood the thorn in Carlo’s side, his little brother.

“BRANDO! Get out!”

Carlo yelled at his little brother as he picked up the Harry Potter wand and threw it at the mischievous little boy, it missed and Brando just giggled then left, closing the door behind him.

“Sorry about that, guys.”

Carlo said when the living room door opened again, this time with something more menacing than Carlo’s younger brother, an Italian mother clad in stereotypical red and white checkered apron and brandishing a wooden spoon.

“Carlo Fitchettie! This Halloween party game of yours isn’t going to work with Brando interrupting. We can’t hold him down all night.”

The others were not impressed but most of all Carlo, who was angry. His younger brother was annoying and ruined a lot of things for him. The only peace and contentment Carlo had in his life was whenever Brando was away on school camps. The door slammed shut, the others got off the floor and Carlo’s other brother, Franco tried to put a positive spin.

“Let’s just play Super Mario Kart.”

Catalina, Madalina, and Stephanie agreed. They helped themselves into the large TV cabinet where the game console lived and set up the Super Mario Kart game on the big screen TV that sat on top of the cabinet.
Carlo sulked on the floor and leaned back on the nice, black velvet recliner chair that was behind him. Letting out a sigh of disappointment and frustration he just watched the others play. Madalina turned around from the TV to see an irritated ‘Harry Potter’ sitting on the floor. She complained in her English accent.

“Stop being such a big girl’s blouse. That game was boring anyway.”

She snarled at Carlo who just looked up at her snapping back with.

“How are we friends?”

Madalina, looked like Snow white, but she had a mean sense of humor and very different taste compared to Carlo. She laughed off Carlo’s response and waved a dismissive hand at him.

“You’re just jealous because I pulled off the Harry Potter look better than you.”

Carlo knew she was right, Madalina was dressed as Harry Potter and looked better than him.

“…but I’m a chick!”

Madalina added and they all laughed.

‘Another Halloween ruined by my little brother…’

Carlo thought to himself.

‘At least the night can’t get worse.’

Carlo crawled onto the recliner chair, pulled out a can of root beer from the eski that sat on the coffee table to Carlo’s right of the chair and just drank as he watched his friends play, forgetting to close the magic circle and the shot glass on the Ouija board dropped onto its side and spinning.

CHAPER 3 " SUPERNATURAL WARDROBE CHANGE
The party of friends stayed overnight, sleeping sprawled throughout the living room. Carlo loved these sorts of nights, it was comforting having his friends close by, waking up the next morning with them and having breakfast together. But this morning was different.

‘Errrrrgh, I feel weird.’

Carlo thought as he woke up in the recliner chair, rubbing the back of his neck noticing his hair grew just a little bit and was wavey.
Carlo then noticed his belly had gotten bigger underneath a pair of red overalls. He grabbed the big, red, baggy cap that was on his head.

‘Did I miss something? When I changed outfits.’

Carlo took off the cap from his head and saw a white ‘M’ on the front of it.

“Mario!?”

Carlo yelled as Franco woke up in the chair to his left. Franco rubbed his eyes and focused on Carlo.

“You’re dressed as Super Mario!”

Franco smiled until Carlo points out to him.

“You’re dressed as Luigi.”

Stephanie and Madalina woke up from underneath the large blanket they shared on the couch at the left of the room. Stephanie looked at Carlo and Franco.

“Hey, wardrobe change!”

Then Catalina woke up on the couch at the right of the room. She had been eating Cheezles on it throughout the night.

“Oh cool, you guys are dressed as Mario and Luigi.”

Franco point at all the girls.

“So are you….we’re all dressed as Super Mario or Luigi!”

This was the moment the remaining popcorn and chips scattered across the coffee table turned into the mushroom characters for the Super Mario games. They began scurrying about the room chasing the friends as they jumped up onto the furniture as if a Spider was loose.

“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!”

That was when Carlo looked at the Ouija board that laid on the living room floor.

‘The indicator is lying on its side when I left it standing on the board.’

Then he realized his error.

“Oh no! We didn’t close the Magic Circle!”
To make things worse, while everyone else was jumping around furniture trying to avoid animated Mushrooms, Carlo realized.

‘This is about the time Brendo comes in and gets annoying.’
CHAPTER 4 "ANYONE GOT CHANGE FOR A DOLLAR

Sure enough, the living room door burst open but instead of his little brother came in the Dragon from the Mario games. Carlo moaned out loud but didn’t get to finish his sentence.

“Oh no, Brando’s turned into…”

The computer animated Dragon formally known as Brando started spitting fireballs around the living room. Carlo wobbled around the recliner chair dodging fireballs from side to side. Then Carlo had an idea.

“Okay everyone, we’re going to treat this like the game.”

Before Carlo could say anything else, the Brando Dragon spat a fireball at his feet forcing Carlo to jump. He landed on the recliner chair and with a burst of adrenaline he jumped again just like Super Mario, landing on top of the Brando Dragon squashing him flat. The animated, flat, round Brando Dragon turned into a child sized pile of one-dollar coins. The rest of the Mushrooms burst and turned into smaller piles of one-dollar coins and then the others turned back into themselves, in their original costumes. But Carlo looked at where he squashed his brother who remained as a pile of gold coins.

“Brando….”

He muttered like an anxious little boy, then Madalina broke the awkward silence that followed.

“Your mum’s going to be sooooooo pissed.”

Then Catalina chimed in.

“Sorry about your little brother. On the bright side….we got a fortune in dollar coins!”

In shock and thinking how to explain this to his mother, Carlo stared at the pile of coins that used to be his little brother, didn’t realize the Ouija board wasn’t titled that at all. On the top of the decorated board read-

‘LOUIGI BOARD.’

Author's Note

Karl Herzog
Definitely not a story meant to be taken seriously. I watch a lot of horror movies with references to Ouija boards and thought 'that rhymes with Luigi.' Then it all rolled on from that.
