Straight from the Ruins of FameA Poem by Karina ColdfeatherShe was once shy for she was once plain. She was worth a friendly “hello”, but not a “How are you?” Until one day when she was noticed. This acknowledgement held her head up very well. She became thirsty for more Of what can be boundless; Attention wrought with secrecy disguised as sincerity. She was now decorated with compliments Where there used to be silence. She worked hard for what should have been child’s play, But this game was demanding. She’d been replaced by a demon bred from insecurity. Others began to notice her proud ways, And they returned once more to casual greetings. But her solitude was worse this time for She had forsaken herself. Her gravestone reads “In Pieces”. I can no longer confess to the reflection in the mirror. © 2014 Karina ColdfeatherReviews
