Stop Pretending

A poem that reads like a love poem, but I actually wrote it to my mother

Stop pretending that you love me 
when you know you don't even care. 
Stop pretending that you need me 
when I know you were never there.

Don't ask me to console you 
or to be there by your side. 
Don't ask me any favors, 
for you know that you have lied.

 
Don't tell me that you want me, 
unless you know you mean it. 
After all, I may fall for it, 
though I've learned never to believe it.

I know I can never trust you, 
because of every promise you've been bending. 
If you ever want my precious love back, 
all you have to do is stop pretending.

I believe the biggest part of any relationship, whether love, friendhsip or family is truth. The truth may hurt at times but it will never hurt a deeply as a lie will. Your poem speaks truth.

People are so good at telling us what we want to hear, but never saying what we NEED to hear. The truth of a heart, whispered to another, echoes deeply and soundly. Trembles and shakes away the doubt and fear and hurt. Beautiful.

Thank you! I think people don't tell us what we need to hear because the truth hurts a lot of the time. However, I personally think we would all rather hear a painful truth than a destroying lie.
