![]() An Old African's Dying WordsA Poem by Master K-tops
I swam in the vibrancy of youth
And kissed the fresh warmth of day I felt a surge of strength so new The neighbours fled in a daze I died in every battle I fought Yet I never lost, not one I was riddled with dark thoughts But I wiped them off the wall. I was graced with titles of men And I broke all of nature's laws Above the sky was my den Below the seas were my claws The white strangers came in folds I faced them with a million's might But I fell down a virgin road My filthy kins bowed to the whites. Transmogrified was our world And comfort was soon unseated We died in the pool of our own blood To a loathed re-birth we were being led They broke our century-old throne Built a fancy new one and ruled A stranger took my fathers' crown Oh that dark ungodly era I rued! We still have those scars now. Ten bullets did bore ten thousand holes In the heart of our quiet land We faced our enemy's foes Pale, white, red and tanned Bullets were not spared, humanity lost This injustice surpassed tears My brothers died for the tyrant's cause And even more died through the years. I lay on my death bed of rupture Reminiscing on a lost forgotten past And fearful of an unknown future The good days did fly like a wasp The legacy of my fathers are broken But it's too late to be hunting shadows The death of an age is coming Sing a mournful celestial carol © 2014 Master K-tops |
