After Joe Bolton's "Style"

After Joe Bolton's "Style"

A Poem by Jesse Fuentes
"

I read a poem called "Style" by Joe Bolton and followed part of his structure

"

I was surprised to find out

how light I felt with most of

my hair missing

I recall when I was twelve

the feeling of deep shame

as I tried to primly peer

over the stalls in the men's

bathrooom. Where my little

cousin slipped from my finger-

tips and vanished in

the dilation of my pupils

To this day it remains

to be the most scandalous

thing I'd ever done

He loved me like a w***e

It took me years

to find myself feeling

sobered up

Now I want to breathe reason

I want to stand up and say

"I'll tear off my face

just to see you smile"

Ask your mother for affections and love

At least I devoured

your corpse. Walking down

the street with the taste

of you in my mouth
