FireWaterA Poem by Onyx Sky
FireWater
Sometimes when you aren’t lookin
I stare at you
I take in all your features
The moles, the dimples
the way your cheeks rise when you smile
I take in the texture of your skin
I pay so much attention
You would think I was trying to complete a painting
“What are you looking at?” you say
“Not you.” I say
No 1 would guess
The way I’m always punching you in the arm
“Like that hurt” you say
And my eyes become even more emblazoned with anger
We sit in class
And you poke my ear with your pencil
I flip you off
And you just smile
“When?” you say
“In your dreams” I say
No 1 would guess
Because we clash
We clash like leather on a hot summer day
The way orange juice and toothpaste taste
Most of the time I’m fighting you
Most of your time, I’m trying to get away from you
My polar opposite
We fight and make up
Make up and then fight
And then sometimes you’re the reason I can’t sleep at night
So maybe you wonder why it is
We are here
Together at this moment
Bounded to you
Like lace
North and South
East and West
Yin and Yang
It’s all a game
