When Sleep Never Comes

When Sleep Never Comes

A Poem by Onyx Sky

When Sleep Never Comes

Those nights when I can’t fall asleep
When I toss and turn in my bed
When my eyes close but my mind does not
I call you, at 3:00am
You’re so groggy from sleep
But you set aside your time
And dedicate to mine

Listening to the deep even tone of your voice
It plants a small seed of calmness
That washes over my mind
Putting me in the most peaceful state

And for once
I can feel my body become less tense
I can feel my voice soften
My breathe rhythmic
Even and Slow
I can feel sleep creeping around the corners
But only when I hear you

I can sleep
When my thoughts can lie inside of yours
Good night, my baby, you say
But I have already risen from my mind
And fallen asleep
