Story of Kenya

Story of Kenya

A Poem by Kamila Vered
"

inspired by the life story of a good friend i met while travelling Israel

"
the words she had used perfectly
described the images of her youth.
they painted a picture in my mind,
so that i also
could feel what she felt and see
what she saw.
and i myself formed a connection
with this land and came to love it,
despite never having been there.

as if with a third eye
i watched the sunrays that lay on the hills
until they disappeared into the night.
i knew the diversity of the people.
i rode on my horse's back for a glimpse of freedom.
i grew just as the plants grew there;
beautifully and all year round.
i went through the hardships of change.
i left.
i returned.
it was destroyed.
i wept.
i settled in a foreign country and made a home. anew.
i came to adore the desert, like i did the safari.
years went by.

yet i shall never forget the richness of childhood,
nor will i have any regrets,
but the story of Kenya will stay with me
for the remainder of my days.
