The lies we tell ourselves

The lies we tell ourselves

A Poem by KalliRose

They say nature is cruel.
It's eat or get eaten.
We are omnivores.

A cheetah wouldn't think twice about eating me
So, then, I shouldn't think twice about inflicting the same cruelty

But I do.

A cheetah has no remorse.
It doesn't cringe at ripping an elk apart
It doesn't care about the screams
It isn't disgusted by the organs inside
that aren't sealed, drained, and placed in pretty packages

But I am.

A jaguar kills
it chases for miles
hunts for weeks on end
it can live only on meat
it doesn't care if it is a dog, cat, cow, or human.

Why do I?

I do not kill
I only drive to the market
and pick up the pretty package
I need to eat it
I am an omnivore, after all.

Comparison with nature. Simple use of words to describe one point. Nice and simple.
