Song of a MockingbirdA Poem by Gabriellesomewhat dark poem about freedom from illusions and the mockingbird
winged with such confidence, she flies
over cotton cloud angels dressed in white ribbons of light and twilight stars shimmer silent as a stone, mockingbird doesn't care she'll move through mountaintops alone ever watchful of the passage of time living through summer's mysterious reign all summer long children are being held captive by the song of a mockingbird in flight wiping away the trials she forgives them with mocking laughter hidden in starry night those singing gales and silly loons; merely artifacts of nature's cartoons if only to be winged, so they too could fly away from the world with such modern irony mothers who wear this heat like a gown, cry replacing their children with silver dimes those busy buzzing sounds could drown any child's tears, now that summer is here if only they could contain their life's rage turning their anger away for the sacred.. but the furious tide keeps pulling them down melding into life, and there is only one way out, to fly away from reason and doubt stumbling about, finding miracles profound so free is this bird, so free from the ground hush my little one, don't you cry watch the mockingbird as it flies like a kite o'er the big yellow sun and when the bright white moon has sunken below the hillside do not fear those mocking songs for what darkness can hide can never touch the light there it is gliding upon the horizon between the sky and o'er the trees into the deep midsummer night making its way 'cross the secret veil to the stars, forever shining bright © 2012 Gabrielle |
