Cordoba

A Poem by Adair

Hello brave men, your shields radiant
We see you march, a force fearsome to all.
And we are but scum, a scourge on the land.
Rabble and rogue, deceitful and vile.
Our chapels, our altars, are covered in blood.
Domed spire topped with a skull.
Corpses of innocent babes impaled on each fence.
Self-sacrifice to slay all our foes.
Arson, hijacking, murder, and more.
These are the things of which we are accused.
At home we mold the minds of our young,
service to darkness our only demand.
Insidious plot, disguised beneath ‘god’.
Famine and blight, our hallmarks, our worth.
Every moment, spent crawling in mud.

Working all day to put ‘food’ on the table.
Our sweat, flows as blood from lashes upon our backs.
Symbols of absolute domination.
They know of their rightness,
after all, who are we?

Every time we rise from our holes,
stomping, and cursing, and shrieks, we abide.
Spat on with scorn, stoned with  great glee.
That is our payment for daring to breathe.
