It's a happy dayA Poem by KaliAnnIt was my classmates birthday and we all had to write her a birthday poem. Hope you enjoy =)Today’s your birthday. A man was just stabbed in the back of the head on their way home from work, a little boy who can’t swim was just shoved into a lake, and a best friend was hit by a car while bringing coffee to her college roommates. A lonely old man filed bankruptcy two months after his wife of 40 years died, an 18 year old boy found out that his girlfriend is pregnant and she doesn’t know who the father is, and a man was just jumped in an alleyway because a gang of homeless teenagers wanted a few bucks for dinner. But today is your day. The day. The day you entered the world and everything was still clear and innocent. The day you took your first breath and became a new edition to the already overcrowded population. The day when there was no end to the horizon. Try not to think about the family whose house just burned down because the father left a cigarette on the kitchen counter, or the girl who gets bullied everyday because of the enlarged birthmark shaped like Africa on her face, or the children living under a newspaper tent while wondering if their mother will come back with food tonight. No, today is the anniversary of your birth. The day you become an adult and get to spread your wings for your 15 seconds of fame. The grandma who accidentally fed her peanut allergic grandson reeses puffs? She doesn't matter. Nor does the 27 year old who is living off of minimum wage and just had her fifth child. There are riots, rebellions, starvation, and civil wars happening, but none of it is relevant. So enjoy your cake, open your presents, be happy on your special day, and let’s hope you live long enough to see another.© 2013 KaliAnnReviews
