I Heard Her Sigh

I Heard Her Sigh

A Poem by Angela Devlin

I heard it.

Just a breath,

but with it carried pain.

It did try to hide itself.

But in that moment,

before there was any time

to negotiate -with fear,

or apprehension, or self consciousness-

her pain became fragile.

So fragile ~

it could be picked up

by just a breath as it passed by

her heart to where it needed to escape.

I heard her sigh.
