This is an opinionated writing piece. My complete and utter opinion on drugs.
People make drugs seem so bad, but in reality, theres a lot of good that came out of them. Without drugs, some of your favourite musical artists (The Doors, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, The Beatles, etc) would never have made the music they did. For instance, The Beatles' music is purely based on LSD, and the highs they encountered. Also, a stepping stone in the 19th century, never would have happened. It may just be me that thinks that Woodstock/Flower Child was a stepping stone, but, to each their own. But imagine a world, without The Beatles, without Marilyn Manson, without the majority of the worlds good music. Also, movies influenced by drugs, Across the Universe, Blow, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Without drugs, the world is brought down to a boring, uninteresting place, where the only thing to do is listen to whatever the stupid government fills into your tiny little brain, polluting you with opinions that aren't your own. Drugs express a certain creativity, only prone to certain individuals. I honestly believe, that individuals with a more enhanced sense of creativity, musicality, intelligence, are those who take drugs. And through that, we made and make our points, in the most creative ways possible. Though, drugs have the power to make people do stupid things. Cocaine, for instance, although it is my favourite drug out there, has killed a lot of people. Johnny Cash, for instance, was a musical genius. He fell into drugs for the wrong reasons, in the wrong way. Then, there are people like Hunter S. Thompson, he made his life based on drugs. Expressing the exact same views that I express here. In my own form.
Well, if anyone decides to read this, I hope you express your own views on the subject. I'd love to hear different opinions.
Interesting piece. I agree that drugs inspired a lot of the world's most amazing music, and I thank a higher power for that, because without music, I'd be dead. Sure, the Beatles took LSD, although I don't agree that they were purely inspired by that. They were inspired by artists, too, and made some of their best work BEFORE they ever did acid. For example, my second favorite song of all-time is "I'm Looking Through You" off Rubber Soul. All they were doing then was weed. They were inspired by other artists; falling in and out of love; etc.And look what happened to John Lennon; he took it too far and ended up writing the song "Cold Turkey" about his heroin problems. I can't deny that drugs make some of the best music - nearly all the artists I love have been drug addicts, in one way or another [The Beatles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Motley Crue, Ramones, Aerosmith - f**k, in fact all of them had members who were drug addicts]. Almost all these bands made horrible music in their deepest drug times, with the exception of maybe The Beatles and Nirvana. The rest of them fell off the charts and, more importantly, didn't live up to anybody's expectations - not the critics, not the fans, and certainly not themselves. Aerosmith made horrible albums like Draw The Line and Night In The Ruts. Red Hot Chili Peppers lost their talented guitarist and best friend in 1988. Nirvana lost their lead singer. Ramones lost their lyrical genius, Deedee. Motley Crue nearly killed themselves, and Nikki Sixx really did stop living two times, only to be revived and only to use more cocaine and heroin the second he was awake enough to snort or stick a needle in his veins.
I've had my own issues with drugs. Prescription opiates, mostly. I've had people tell me I'm an addict, when I take admittedly large doses of Morphine and such for a real medical problem. Sorry this is so long, but you said you'd be interested in others opinions.
Interesting, as I have long battled with drug addiction. I, of course, see it from both sides. When I am able to control myself - not lose everything - yes, drugs are fun! I admire that you put this out there. I see no fear here in expressing yourself. Of course, I withhold some of my opinion, for too many people I care not to see how I feel. But thanks : )
I'm Christina. I write about things that happen, things that I want to happen, things that I think should happen. I try to be heartfelt, and sincere. But, thats not always how it works out. I'm a comp.. more..
