Dark Before It's Night

Dark Before It's Night

A Poem by Ariel B.

There's a chill in the air
gets dark before it's night
fallen leaves break under foot
dressed in white.
There's a green world swallowed
by an absence of light,
a softer world waiting
just out of sight
ready for winter
to bury it in snow
wrap it all around it all
and let the future go -
oh -
I know that spring will come again
but I don't want to be here then
I don't want to be here when
the flowers grow.

Author's Note

Ariel B.
I'm not sure this is what I want it to be. Input would be greatly appreciated. I pared it down rather a lot - too much? Does it say something, or is the content missing? Also - I had to slap a title on to post it here - does the title fit, or should I have another go at that?

I hear a melody in these words . They have a lyrical flow, and could easily be turned into a song . As such, I think lyrics should be pared down in songwriting - it works.

I sometimes spend more time on the title than on the writing of the piece itself . If you think the title fits is what matters ..

I really like the last stanza
