What I Saw From the Bench TableA Poem by Different WingsOne evening's visionsThe two secret lovers and the earbuds between them not distracting from the books on the table in front of them with candles to light their reading and the mosquitoes that fly in and out of the candlelight daring themselves to survive the flame and the few that don’t but mostly the few that do and nip at the legs of the two receptive orators discussing the surprising effectiveness of catching birds which didn’t catch the attention of the Scot who walked in to finish a routine for the night falling about us quickly as a hastily cast shroud over a birdcage which is iron and not cheap like the unaspiring orange plastic cup sitting in a ho-hum way with the flickering candlelight rubbing it and the candlelight that misses the deck of cards sitting ready waiting and shuffled for any of the pairs or any of the mosquitoes or any of the birds to deal out a few chips for the evening’s last hand © 2013 Different WingsAuthor's Note
