Not a LieA Poem by Different Wings
If I were asked to pick a food
Dessert, just to be clear That I would take the form of now And live as for a year Then I would think for time and Time About the treats I know Sweet ice cream folded succulent And maple line to snow Then, of course, there's fruity pie We each have one we like With filling, crust, we cut a piece I'd do that for a Klondike bar And how could I forget desserts That smatter smooth on tables Brownies, cookies, fudge and such Baked as sweet as fables But all of these desserts are easy Common comfort treats What about those lemon bars? Or cherries red as beets? Hmm why have I yet to think About exotic fare? Treacle tarts, white chocolate mousse Aren't found just anywhere Peanut butter snatched on spoons Hot cocoa tipped auspicious To call these household goods dessert May seem a bit suspicious My favorite! Oh! Is Créme Brulee! With sugar burnt atop And rich raspberries on the edge It fills my dreams, it's hard to stop But out of all yummy desserts Luscious, sticky, smitten I think that I would answer 'Cake' Because it is the one dessert About which poetry is written
