I Wanted You to Know

I Wanted You to Know

A Poem by Kala Benfield

I wanted to tie a tourniquet around your heart.
I watched you die a little tonight.
But it would tear us apart.
I wanted you to know,
how dear you are to me.
I wanted to tell you my heart,
but that I could not show.
The poison dripping from thine heart
that is withering its beats away,
would be obliterated with a single word
I wanted to say.
I know every aspect of your entire life.
I watch every degree of your smile come
from my light.
When the sun goes down,
we'll be alright;
Safe and Sound.
Come morning light, your screams
will be no more.
For our love is Forever More.
Our shadows killed your light.
I hate leaving you alone.
I hated seeing you cry tonight.
In all the world, who knew it could be so evil.
We're lucky our love lets our hearts over fill.
Close your eyes my love,
Dream sweet.
I wanted you to love and be loved.
I wanted to love you and tell you.
I wanted you to be here with me and the stars above.
As the bottles we tip back burn and cote our throats.
Like the wars outside our windows, and all the fires.
We'll break free from the pain and barbed wire;
that surrounds our love to conspire;
the wars hitting heads.
I wanted to let you know,
our love will never end.
