Medusa's Kiss

Medusa's Kiss

A Poem by Kaitlyn Raiford

Hiding away in my heart the feelings that I find,
holding your hand so close,
but having to close my eyes.

Only feeling you close to me,
when you sense something is wrong,
having to be forced apart when I know that we belong.

Because you are my best friend,
and not only are you that.
You are my everything hidden by a disguise of anything you can find.

You are a smile hidden behind a sinners frown.
But I can see the smile in your eyes.
Lately you have been hiding in a shelter that;s been torn.

Everyone can see the walls that threaten to crumble.
The windowpanes are broken,
and the roof is worn.

At any moment that beloved shelter you call love can fall.
And there you will be alone with only a doorway to stand in.
You are placing your trust in someone who is not able to answer your needy call.

You are calling someone holy,
when they will be soon banished to Hell for their sins.
But who can blame you? You looked into Medusa's eyes.

A curious boy who wanted to see the snakes that hissed.
A boy who I tried to hold back from the evil lies.
But who was too busy "in love," by a sinners kiss.
