Mistaken Actions

Mistaken Actions

A Poem by Kaitlyn Raiford

Lungs were filled with toxins.

Livers were on their way to failing.

Eyes were, of course, bloodshot red

And arms and legs were flailing.

Slowly nerves began to detach.

Quickly all sense began to fade.

Lips locked and bodies merged

While all hearts began to race.

There were walks back to tents,

And walks right down the road.

But there is one walk that I am sure

Everyone is sure to know.

There was not any agreement.

Not a single word was exchanged.

And yet, on that fateful night…

A girl seeking fun brought change.

Decisions were made in haste.

Those walking began to fall.

Everyone was consumed by a drug-

But I was consumed by all.

My better judgment was left at home.

Left on a pillow that laid on my bed.

It was not of much use there-

It was better off inside my head.

If I had thought most properly…

I would not be here today.

If I had made the correct choice

You would not have walked away.

I know that you think I do not care.

It is written plainly on your face.

But what you do not know

Is that I deeply regret the choice I made.

I never meant to hurt you.

I never wanted to see you cry-

But I dismissed my thoughts of you

And it has led me to wish to die.
