Optimistic Eyes

Optimistic Eyes

A Poem by Kaitlyn Raiford

Optimistic eyes,
Look upon me and tell me what you see.
Take a mental note of all my flaws,
And tell me what they add up to be.

Gentle hands,
Find my chest, and tell me what you feel.
There, beneath my heart's weakened beat...
Is love still true, and real?

Mind filled with intellect,
Mull over me in your daily debates,
And when you become practical again,
Tell me, am I good enough to embrace?

I see this poem as three aspects of the speakers self - hopefulness. gentleness. thoughtfulness - each asked to evaluate the speakers worth.

All three stanza define in their first parts the more perfect and idealized judger.

The first stanzas' second line invites "the more perfect one" to consider the speakers fleshen form.

The second stanzas second part describes a heart not broken, but challenged by some emotional disappointment from the past.

In the third stanzas' second part, the speaker acknowledges a desire to perceive their self as superior and grants a time to believe that's so. Yet in the end, an honest evaluation is desired.

Finally, in total, the last parts of all the stanzas ask: "Am I beautiful enough, can I love enough, am I worthy enough to be loved?"

I can see the speaker standing in front of a mirror and asking these questions of their own reflection.

This poem is compact and to the point.

Dis' is some good stuff.

Thank you so much. I enjoyed reading your review very much.
I love this. Never depend on eyes to tell you what you're worth unless those eyes can look into you far enough to see what kind of person you are. Flaws are not you and you are not your past. Just some friendly advice :) this is a great poem, by the way.
