Beware the Beautiful Green

Beware the Beautiful Green

A Poem by Kaitlyn Raiford

One strand of moss hangs from the tree

That sits by the setting sun.

There it hangs, waiting lonely

Although its hanging has just begun.

There have been others that waited longer,

But that did not seem to matter.

There it hung, all alone

Watching the soothing water.

Not too long after it slipped

From it's shelter laying amongst the beautiful tree,

Down drifted a lonely leaf

Wearing the most beautiful of greens.

The two found comfort in the other's companionship.

Many a day they would lay and talk.

But soon came a rain and wind that blew them away,

And washed off the sidewalk's chalk.

Maybe they were too different, anyways.

A lovely leaf with a worn moss thread.

They were meant to part, not to stay-

And that has left dread in the lonely sunset.
