Knowing you have a secret

Knowing you can’t tell?

Yes the secret is your own

Yes you could tell

But it’s not worth the humiliation

From those cruel people

The ones that are the fools

 

How does it feel

Knowing you like this person

But you won’t dare tell

They sit beside you and

Your heart starts to shrill 

Can’t they hear it?

It’s about to beat

Right out of your chest!

 

How does it feel

Knowing the person that is at your side

Is the person you really like?

This person so amazing

But the world doesn’t know

This person so funny

So adorable

So…

Well you know.

I seem to enjoy poems that go full circle, like a chorus in a song. This builds resonance, and when you do these things, your readers will know because deep down your words will strike something familiar. That is what good writing is, the reason readers come to the bookstore and purchase a book when they could easily just download a new app for their cell phone or a new game for their system. There is a special relationship between the reader and the story, they are linked by what the reader feels is his/her own. I know how it feels. Yes, I know very well. This was an incredible poem and I hope you can bring more familiarity to those who read your work.

I love the way you use the questions in this poem. It enhanses the whole piece and brings it right back to the reader forcing them to feel that intense feeling when you have a crush on someone. the excitement and fear combine in such a wonderous and torcherous way. Take the risk is what I say. If you prepare your heart for rejection and take the risk anyway you will not live with the regret of "what if?" I have too many of those regrets.
