A Poem by Kain Smith
"

A set of song lyrics detailing my complicated feelings towards my religious upbringing.

"

Amazing Grace,

How sweet the sound.

It damned a wretch like me.

I once was lost,

But now am found.

Was blind, but now, I see.

See the chain of abuse,

See the stains of misuse,

See the loss of my youth,

All the time spent longing.

See the death of the spark,

See the cries in the dark,

See smugness and snark,

No chance for belonging.

Fellowship, compassion-

Simple, empty lies.

Words of prayer,

Nothing more you offer.

Anything that can’t be solved

Won’t exist in your eyes.

All problems are prayers

Left on the altar.

Left on the altar of sacrifice.

Left to deaf ears, let the pain suffice

Let it to you a lesson be-

Never abandon the likes of me.

Tell me why must we call that name,

Else we are sent to fires and shame?

Please tell me what it is you desire.

Is it to burn us all in hellfire?

It must be, for your cruelty knows no end.

See my fear, see my shame,

See the cost and the pain,

See that you are to blame,

Not some other trickster.

Seek the truth, seek and find,

Nevermore be ye blind,

Seek and peace will abide

As the lanes betwixt are

Lost in the dark.

Lost with the spark.

Lost with the truth.

Lost with the youth.

With grief and with innocence,

Now see your learning begin.

I'm unsure quite what musical mood was in my mind when I wrote this, so I'd love to know your impressions on the sort of song this could be.

Like slow at first then it would be like a rock type thing. This is great especially since I am quite against the religious family I was born into and I am a songwriter as well.
