Same Despite the Differences

Same Despite the Differences

A Poem by Kailani

Let us come together
Let us mingle in peace
Let us laugh with each other
Let us forget petty differences

I don't care about your religion
I don't care about your race
The color of your skin doesn't matter to me
Nor the language that you speak

We are all the same on the inside
We all have a heart, a brain, two lungs,
Cut us with a knife and we all bleed red,
We all have feelings and ideas
Opinions and a point of view

All you have to do is get to know one another
To know the real person underneath
To have the intelligence and the wisdom
The strength and non-ignorance
To look past our differences

I don't care if you have a disease
If you're missing a limb
If you are young or old
I don't care if you're blind or deaf
Or in any way different from me

All that matters is the person underneath
If you're good and know right from wrong
If you're good and do your best
To live right and humanely in this world

Yes, let us come together
Let us mingle in peace
Let us laugh together
And share in friendship
For we are the same
Despite the differences

Author's Note

Kailani
I wrote this after many months of struggling to get my feelings on the subject of wars being started and people being treated differently or shunned because of a disease, religion, race, the language you speak, what color of skin you have. I have written many versions of this, but this one seems to be the best of them all.

Please give suggestions and point out grammatical problems or punctuational errors that I may have over looked. There's always room for improvement!

However, you can also tell me if you liked it or not. Comments are all greatly appreciated!

About
I enjoy writing, and I"ll admit that I am not the best writer out there, but I love slipping into the worlds I create when I write. My second favorite topic is reading (no surprise there, right?), and.. more..
