Eyes Wide Open

Eyes Wide Open

A Poem by Kaede16

What I’ve seen so far is fearsome,

It’s a fire raging for miles.

Devouring. Consuming.

It’s the earth roaring and swallowing everything.

It’s beast against beast, horns clenched,

Blood dripping.

Full pockets.

What I’ve seen so far is little.

I’ve seen a baby’s first smile,

And my grandfather’s last tear.

Tiny. Shy, almost.

My hometown drowning under the clouds,

And with it my family, my childhood.

What I've seen so far, is nothing.

It’s the dust of a butterfly’s wings

Falling with each flutter.

It’s the movement of the Earth in that second,

Right after you lift your eyes from the last page,

and close the book.

An interesting descriptive and progressing poem that takes the reader on a journey, a bit of a mystery destination as we have to decide if 'closing the book' is a metaphor or not.

A very strong descriptive poem here loved it
Loved the last line it leaves one on mystery whether the writer is writing about the reading of her book or real life
Great mystery ending well done here
