Eyes Wide OpenA Poem by Kaede16What I’ve seen so far is fearsome, It’s a fire raging for miles. Devouring. Consuming. It’s the earth roaring and swallowing everything. It’s beast against beast, horns clenched, Blood dripping. Full pockets. What I’ve seen so far is little. I’ve seen a baby’s first smile, And my grandfather’s last tear. Tiny. Shy, almost. My hometown drowning under the clouds, And with it my family, my childhood.
What I've seen so far, is nothing. It’s the dust of a butterfly’s wings Falling with each flutter. It’s the movement of the Earth in that second, Right after you lift your eyes from the last page, and close the book. © 2020 Kaede16Reviews
