The War on TV

The War on TV

A Poem by Kae Martyndale
"

Another one from high school. 2003.

"

I see the light
I hear the crash
The night is on fire
But I am not there
I am sitting in my pajamas
Eating chips in my living room
There
s a war on TV
But there
s nothing I can do
I feel so small
Sitting in front of this little box
The flickering lights
Show disaster
The voices float around
Like creations of a drug trip
That I wish I could say
Are not real
If only they were the creations
Of my over active mind
I wish I could turn them off
Make all they say
An elaborate lie
There is a world
On the TV
But it is not the world
In which I live
There is no war here
But of that I can never be sure
For where is the line
Between the war
And my living room floor?
