Loved LikeA Poem by K.N. HerznerLove saves all.
Maybe she stop to stare at her tired reflection,
Because she had to hear "I love you" be spoken from her own lips. Maybe she had looked for love in all the wrong places, Because she had been jaded while running from herself. Or perhaps she was afraid to love another, Because love was not a force she projected. Perhaps the touch of his hands on her hips as he murmured lies was all she knew, Because she rejected the ideal of love. As she counted the scars on her body, A small part of her withered away. As she touched where he had kissed her, All of who she was broke. He was a man who proclaimed broken promises to her, But secretly she knew that. He had been bad news from the start, But the start of nothing new for her. Thieves fell for her, Because they thought they could break into her heart and steal her love away. But there was never a treasure to steal, Nor any words strong enough to crack her walls open. Maybe she was accepting to that, That she would bottle it all away and be a woman made of stone But then God did the unthinkable; There were no thieves or robbers trying to break her, But a man drenched in verses, His skin covered by The Word. A promise she thought God forgot, But instead made anew. This man saw her in her flawed beauty, But his ocean gaze saw past her surface to the golden treasure of her tender heart. The truest of her. So they fell in love And loved like Ephesians 5. © 2015 K.N. HerznerAuthor's Note
