Saltwater

Saltwater

A Poem by Cat

My body has turned into an oyster

My hope at the center

Fragile, easily lost

I hold onto it, the last thing I could hold onto

The ocean is vast, it is cold, it is empty

It is greedy, it is wrathful, it is unforgiving

I hold on, nevertheless

For I know

When I wash up to shore

With nothing but my faith

I offer it up to him

And say “Here”

“You are the only one who can make me stronger”

Author's Note

Cat
I am Catholic and I wrote this during a really difficult time in my life where I couldn't believe things would get better. I was being eaten by my own depression and I can just remember myself clutching the rosary praying so hard crying and whatnot. These were my feelings at the time. And I know not many can relate to Catholicism, but if you believe in something whether that be yourself or someone else or a God, I hope you can relate

I am not even remotely religious, but this is a very poignant portrayal of lost hope and a broken spirit. A lovely piece of writing. Well done, Cat.
