OrigamiA Poem by CatWe are sitting in the backseat of my CRV. Every word out my mouth a papercut I’m sorry, paper cut don’t leave me, papercut it’s my fault and you, the papercut promise I’ll change and you never do. You wrap me into your arms fold me into your embrace and in this moment I do not want you in these edges I do not want you in these creases In this moment I do not want you. Coercing me into wrinkled up pages You fold me into a swan, a box, a crane And in this moment Resistance is futile “Don't act like you don’t want it too” One last no and I turn into a crumpled paper ball, Smushed into silence so you stop And realize that it’s time to go I roll on over to you If it meant you wouldn’t leave You leave regardless And every night after that I curl myself back into my ball into elbows and knees Bent, But never brokenAt least, not anymore.
