The fireA Poem by CatSometimes When I think of you it is something like crouching in a post-apocalyptic burning room my fear has overcome my hunger the idea of anything entering my body revolts me so I skip dinner my palms are sweaty, shaking, waiting to be more than just something used to push people away when I think of you My lungs clamp up from all the carbon monoxide poisoning the fire has caused me to suffocate on my own expectations Maybe if I hadn't always turned the lights off you wouldn't have gotten used to reaching for just body parts Maybe you would’ve reached for my heart instead I was so afraid of the fire that I lit the match myself Sometimes when I think of you I wonder if your love was made of gasoline © 2017 CatFeatured Review
