Touchdown

Touchdown

A Poem by KWP

never about the landing, the

touchdown has always

lifted the hair on my arms

like a reverse chopping down of a tree

standing tall, I

take in the new view

this particular

touchdown has granted

upright forest of the now

I flit,

you flop,

I spring,

you stop

you revel in the landing

take root

call it home

ah, touchdown my darling

is what sparks the wildfires

in the standing tall trees

change is constant

stagnation wilts, dies

so, my darling

take me while I am here

in this touchdown

it was never my intention to stay

life is but a rolling revelry of

experience, and I plan

to draw every last droplet of sap

from this newly standing tree

before I launch to,

touchdown again and

experience the

new

This poem conjures a swirling cauldron of impressions. I'm reminded of a poem I just read by a poet who professed her love TO THE EXTREME (in trite generalities) to some unworthy guy (he dumped her shortly after she wrote poem, we know from reading other reviews). This was the 2nd poem I read (same poet, similar time-frame) -- the other poem saying there's nothing to live for (severe depression). I find it sad/funny to read the outpourings of those who allow their very existence to be jerked around by how other people act/respond to them. Your poem seems to take this concept to a playful place, showing why its best to be grounded in feelings that come from one's inner truth, not what's going on "out there"! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This is so true to me. Life is on touchdown and launch after another. But sometime there are touchdowns that last longer. Touchdowns i wish i never would have left.

' .. so, my darling .. take me while I am here .. in this touchdown .. it was never my intention to stay .. life is but a rolling revelry of .. experience, and I plan .. to draw every last droplet of sap ;; from this newly standing tree .. before .. .. .. '

First read seems like a hit and deliberate mix here, If wrong - often am, you're neither making apologies nor taking prisoners. Wonder on second reading if you have plans and intend - in your own extreme and fine wording, to carry them out.. come what may.. an invitation stands but.. Smiling cos now I've lost myself, over.thinking, E!! As ever your lay out, your phrasing, the metaphors and all, are great. Take care, keep safe, please, very much. :)

This is quite lovely. It reminds me of a School of Life video about celebrating short-term love. Not everyone who comes into our lives is meant to stay, but we can still treasure those who are only with us for a short time. Every relationship comes to an end, and sometimes that end is death. I've lost many lovers through many different means including death. Strangely, death is an easier way to lose someone than a breakup. Well, it depends on who initiated the breakup, but I think you get where I'm coming from.

if only we could rebuild what sometimes gets chopped out from under us, and lays us to waste.
wonderful use of metaphor here...had me singing Elton John..."till touchdown brings round again to find, I'm not the man they think I am at home"

Maybe I am a felled tree falling upwards.
