Void

Void

A Poem by KWP

the void of where you once were,

immense

the cold wind whips and twists through the

crevasse of my heart

no-one visits anymore

the sun’s warmth always

envelops my face

closing my eyes to the sun to

make patterns in my eyelids

the memory of you

strong, like

the whiskey you drank

now you are gone

your soft beard grazing

gently across my face

remains, as I

dabble in the sunlight

tricking myself

all is just as it is supposed to be

it’s lonely here and,

even as the sun burns, the interior

lives in darkness

light no longer enters

as the cold wind whips and twists through the

crevasse of my heart

I sit in your void

the whole world keeps moving

I will wait

Grief and how long it takes to process this is as individual as the person and there should be no time limits on this. The love can be so strong that the void mat never ever be filled but that's ok, we learn to adapt but never ever forget.
I loved this piece....its raw, emotional and really gives the reader that sense of loss and heart ache. Thank you this was lovely.

I think when two become one, the void must be immense.
In a more surreal way that person never really leaves, their presence is always there to remind you.
I think a lot of people are living your poem, and with this miserable virus, a lot more will be grieving after it.

wow .. that's a challenging pic, Elizabeth .. my eye is drawn to all of it at once trying to find that focal point .. very cool ..
your poem ... extraordinary says i! ...any void will capture my attention .. something alluring about them .. how far can one lean in without being sucked in .. whooosh ;}
I think this is one of your best my friend .. you have hit a fine mix of human and our inner sanctums ... and i think wrapping up with that repeating line with a twist is brilliant .. simply brilliant says i! your treatment of our memories in such a way touches me soul with that wind whistling through them .. i am left feeling saddened by the tragedy of love having been found then lost .. yet burns within each from a distance that now can not be bridged .. is the heart of tragedy .. read it twice and is one to revisit says i! well done! .. nothing lacking, nothing to trim
E.
ps. i would never imagine you ever knew a whiskey drinking bearded man :))))))))))))))))))))))))

Grief overlays this one heavily. The void of the title is what one feels when someone long beloved has departed. The speaker is now experiencing a deep loneliness, lightened only somewhat by memories. Even on sunny days, "light no longer enters." Though life goes on, the void will remain. I think this is going to be an extended grief.

It's a strange place. But I think everyone can identify with this poem in one way or another.

We all have a part inside that used to be something else than what it is now. It's part of growing up. One of the more unpleasant parts of growing up sometimes. Waiting will only bring you disappointment, in my expeirance anyway. Growing our emotions is so important to being emotionally healthy. Letting go is another part of that, but that's a somewhat different conversation.

I think you definitely captured the void. Your words have a vulnerability that allows the reader to tap into your experiences. A connection is there. A strength and sadness throughout. Nice work!

Stark writing. As the reader it left me feeling empty. Wanting for more. Its a silly thing that only time can fill an emptiness so big. But only at a trickles rate. One drop at a time, and that hope the bucket has no leaks.

Hello dear poet. A beautiful poem shared. We do miss people and the reflection of memory make us wish to hear their voices. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.

This is the most beautiful poem I've read in a long time about someone being gone from one's life. I love how these sentiments are a topsy-turvy tumble of good & bad sensations. That's exactly how it can feel when you're missing someone who meant so much at one time. It's like their warmth & love, along with the lessons you learned together, continue to reap fruit, so there's a positive connection even with such a void. But there's no denying this narrator is making the best of a void, trying to make it feel more meaningful than it really feels some days. I love this poem for the honesty of how it can feel (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

The void of a lost love
The memories which drift back again and again

The whole world keeps on moving

So you should yourself
To fill the void
