Can't Stop

Can't Stop

A Poem by KWP

this pain you cause

burns this heart to cinders

as always I have the unique ability to

r

ec

om

pose

you are an

unhealthy addiction

I inhale you to

the depth of my soul

you are the spark that

lights the flame and burns

into each desire

I want you

you are an

inescapable

unhealthy addiction

I want you

your rage

uncontrollable

never will I douse the heat

and yet

the excitement prevails

you are an

inescapable

I know it

but today

………. I’m not ready to say goodbye

A beautifully worded tug-of-war. Being torn in different directions to fill a void. I really enjoyed this.

The torment of loving the pain that love can bring
Is it the desire that burns within
or the endless nights of wanting for more

So beautiful KWP

The stand out thing about your poem is how the trajectory of the narrator's state of mind sounds EXACTLY like one's mind-chatter while trying to resist some addiction, be it to substances, actions, or beings. Trying to focus on how bad you know this choice is for you, such a person eventually gets to the point of saying "not now" (as if we ever believed there would be a "right" time to do this). This is so true-to-life for the addict's moment of surrender (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Oh how that can cover so many things in life. And addictions ....we know they are bad and we know we should stop and everyday is just one more day before we tell it goodbye.

intense emotions in this ..the conflict stings ...yet i am hooked in ... love the free verse in this .. your recompose is so strong says i ...it makes me take the rhythm you lay down ... i pray for these people often ... it is particularly women who suffer ... in my own small circle far too many have come out of abusive relationships .. and all speak to the "addiction" ... making no sense what-so-ever :((((((((((((( well done K ... hits to the bone honesty

Indeed many are drawn to people they know to have negative attributes. For some it is the facination, for others perhaps the belief they can handle it or reform the person. Women in particular can be drawn to violent men because they feel they will be protected by them. Interesting write.

It's so hard to walk away even when we know a relationship is toxic. So hard to cut the ties that once made us feel so damn good. When the time is right, you will be ready. Such honest emotion in this one. Lydi**

'.. but today ………. I’m not ready to say goodbye ' That says more than - is such a brilliant ending to what might never end!

Perhaps addicitions are awareness knocking on either heart or mind.. or both. Guess that some people use their 'weaknesses' in negative ways, others just use.. .. Your proiblem reads anything but a problem, a lusciousness of forbidden fruit that you're wisely but insanely aware of...

Your words are controlled yet intense, placed just so for full drama.. your really have your own literary power!

Truly don't say anything but truth.. :)
Some pain is unhealthy but we still crave that pain. It is exciting but finally destroys us. I learnt from my own experience. Now I try control my feelings. Very impactful poetry.

Funny isn't it how we crave that pain ... what interesting minds we have !!!
Every breath you take is one less you will ever take.

Breathing is everyone's first addiction and everyone has way more than one addiction, even if it's an addiction to avoiding addictions... that's still at least two addictions. I don't think addiction is always a dirty word, they define us more than we'd like to admit. Some addictions are worse than others of course.... some destroy us and if you're good at being an addict you still kinda love it and put all kinds of effort into just doing it all over again.

I have this cat, I'm not sure what I'd do without him. Is it weird to hope he outlives me? Or am I just a coward for hoping to avoid more intimate feelings of loss by dying first?
