Ode To GoannaA Poem by KWPtoday a goanna, strong, sleek in style, moved close to my surrounds sharp claws lock jaw sliding tail black, slink, yellow tiled skin tongue flits upon ants and bugs looking for something more filling I move, he stops unmoving he waits motionless unaware of time attuning himself again with his current surrounds a bird lands on a nearby twig I observe the statued goanna considering - in the heat of the day eating the tiny bird for lunch keen eyed bird senses impending danger - flutters away goanna contemplates clawing up the bark of that thirty foot eucalyptus waiting waiting no rush waiting decides against the climb next time I see him he’s making a ruckus atop he chicken shed oh as I wonder just how in tune with nature am I? © 2018 KWPReviews
