The Planet of Humanity

The Planet of Humanity

Excuse me Earth,

is this a game of hide and seek?

I cannot seem to find humanity anywhere.

Searched I have the

pillaged, all but dwindling,

ransacked, barren forests of the world.

The wind left alone screaming for home

asking why?

I did not find humanity.

Visited I have,

hopeful bodies seeking new homeland,

escaping horrors on the backward turn,

petrified of passage forward.

Now,

drowned, dead, bloated.

Broken shredded sunken boat, they are

lost and forgotten,

floating face down,

staring unblinkingly into,

an ocean of unforgiving welcome.

Last word etched on their lips,

why?

I did not find humanity.

Touched the stuck-out ribs

of famished third world kids I did.

Hunger lost in the knowledge of nothing.

Noting the blind eyes numbed

in a first world of

gidget gadgets

aiding only to forget the now.

I did not find humanity.

Witness time and again

the earth shudder and break I do.

Blasts of mortar shatter the soul.

Shrill incoming airstrikes splitting truths.

Parents clutching children,

all to familiar anticipation of death.

Warfare far too commonplace.

The innocent bloody and torn

wait for dust to settle,

to bury dead, then,

patch together this ‘gift’ called life once more.

Everywhere I hear the silent pleas of

why?

I did not find humanity.

Bones now weak, now brittle

flesh hollow, limp

hearts slowing to comatose

suppressing emotion.

Are we losing the vision of love?

True love.

It is draining away,

I am depleted.

Oh Earth,

when you next see humanity,

please ask to

finish this game of hide and seek

for the rest of us

stopped playing long ago.

You haven't looked under the right rock yet; we are all there festering away, with scant regard for this beautiful gift of a planet.

I have seen some things and though you hit hard with these line, it is justifiably so. T

So much evil in the world and countries facing problems of their own afraid they cannot afford to feed the masses trying to reach their door. Will there ever be peace and harmony on the earth. Not as long as evil exists. Sad write. Valentine

Lost forever, like a virginity, not valued until,"oh my God what just happened.......and who are you and what are you doing wearing my underwear!!!Be gone pervert and never darken my door again" Right where was I ,oh yes,I agree with Jacob,in fact I could well be Jacobs illegitimate, much less intelligent British love child.

oh must've been grandad XX
humanity where is thy sting, somewhere in the dustbin of life it seems as we struggle against the tide of war, hate and crime, on the news today '80 year old man beaten to a pulp by burglars as they rob his home' what kind of humans are these, less than sub-humans, lower than the depths of hell! Your work here makes me believe humanity has departed this world, a poem of passion and strength Elizabeth, your work is as always stunning, thanks for this X

hey there boss boss and it's always lovely to have you around - LOVE YA X
You have expressed here one of my on going topics. The loss of humanity. Very well written with great imagery of the pain and suffer in so many ways around the world. Humanity is not really lost in this world, it's just the people in charge have no humanity as they fight on killing the masses as they take dirt from others. Thanks you for sharing this powerful piece.

Well there is that too. hahaha
yes, years ago some of us have given up the search...humanity is hiding so well, it may never be found again.
love the repetition of that line...works well to impel the theme.

lovely ending right there.very well written and thought provoking too. so much truth in every single line. funny how the world now has such a distorted view of "humanity" but in actual fact its all just a planet full of selfish people driving to push their own goals and its sad when you hear stories of how even the so called humanitarians exploit the ones they claim to help.
