Stop Practicing Escapism

Stop Practicing Escapism

A Poem by KWP
"

in the now

"

It’s futile you know

this obsession with

escapism

wanting

needing

desiring

running from the now

sit, stop,

take a breath

reacquaint within the

present

this moment

called

now

exhale your

entire

make-up

what you

consider

you

see what’s left

if you look hard enough

you shall

reacquaint with

truth

within the truth

you need not

escape

any longer

for you are

already home

this is awesome. I find Escapism is very prevalent among artists, especially young ones. In fact, many indeed have it on their profile, that poetry is an escape, or literature is an escape.
While that's fine and dandy in certain doses, when someone does it all the time, it can become an addiction.

Anyhow. like the way you almost pull them back in like a mantra. And the last lines are excellent.

I really enjoy how you encourage your reader to be mindful, deeply focused on the present moment. You beautifully articulate that there is no past or feature when we focus on the now. We can purely exist in the moment and free ourselves from suffering.

Your fourth and fifth stanzas were really strong. Stanza four prescribes meditation as a way to hone mindfulness, and stanza five shows the potential results of meditation.

I thoroughly enjoyed your very thoughtful words.

I was dreading and I ignored reading this as long as I can, after I read the title. That is cos i knew it would be a punch in my gut. Great piece Beth! You whacked my head to let go of constraints and realise the present even for a little time. I miss the little things :)

You are kindly welcome fellow poet! - FT
I really enjoyed this poem and the message which it carried, we are all so concerned about our future and where we are all going to end up and just forget about enjoying the present, very good read
