August Postcard poetry Festival

August Postcard poetry Festival

A Poem by KWP
"

A month filled with exchanging poems ...

"

One aspect of August I love is writing a poem ‘off the cuff’ everyday for thirty one days. The poems are then sent to other ‘August Postcard Poetry Fest’ participants around the world. The idea is you sit and write, no edit, just write, post,

Then, from my end, I eagerly watch the mail box as postcards arrive to me by good old fashioned Snail Mail from Poets the planet over.

Looking back, reading my own poems, I smile, I laugh and wonder what on earth was going through my head each day. Such a lovely way to write and exchange ideas with other Poets I have never before met from across the planet.

Below are my Daily Poems ..

August 1st

like the turning of a new page

each day of winter passes

the sun outstretches its arms

a little further with each sunrise

offering warm embrace

waking all within its reach

reminding

it’s time to rise

from the weary slumber

-----------------------

August 2nd

I have watched you little flower

yes, each day

I have visited admiring

your entry to life

enjoying seeing you grow

from a tiny bud

unfolding into

your glorious now

admiring your beauty

and your ease

to know how to be

thank you

little flower

---------------------

August 3rd

Red Rock I see you

but not with my eyes

Red Rock I feel you

but not with my hands

I watch as

you watch

eternity be

your gift to me offering

a timely reminder

that you have been

part of the

everywhen -

just like me

and you offer me

a lesson in

- patience

----------------------

August 4th

pink, purple hues

saturate sky

dissipating into

crimson, gold

brief

iridescence

filling horizon

whispering

to the

golden fire

to rise

and bask

for a new day

IMG_5245

August 5th

sun setting

rest in time

ageless ages

ask our thought

caught in now

breathing

to find

the answers

at the end of

each exhalation

--------------------

August 6th

Silent eyes

filled with desert storm tears

sweeping listlessly

over arid cheeks

as life ever progresses

forward

----------------------

August 7th

they say

we are but

a reflection

of each other

show me then " please

my dear reflection

something

I have kept hidden

from myself

-----------------------------

August 8th

inviting "

luscious, large -

smiling outward

fire engine red

juices flowing

loss of self control

devour you whole

I share your smile

as your juice rolls down my chin

thank you " strawberry

-------------------------

August 9th

morning birds

chirp

day breaks early

stretching longer into the eve

gradually

bidding

the treading water

of winter farewell

welcome of new life

to spring

-----------------------------

August 10th

zesty fervour

pumps afresh

throwing of the bed covers

in celebration of possibilities

ahh

sun is shining

----------------------------

August 11th

Limerick for Hanna

There once was a lady named Hannah

She spoke fondly of her prized Ba-nana

Dancing up the street

Just waiting to meet

A man to mash her ba-nana with a spanner

--------------------

August 12th

allowance

to evaporate

into the desolate

winds of

abandon

to swim alongside

nihility once more

------------------------

August 13th

the occultation of Saturn

and the moon

observing the tiny planet

dwarfed by

the orb of this night

askance of

purpose

 " this life

 " awaiting

universal response

----------------------------

August 14th

Oh sunflowers

Perched atop

my console

your life continues on

even cut at your thick stems

 " continues on

longer than the

thick pungent

murkey

slime

that was once water

keeping you

until your last breath

 --------------------------

August 15th

Bok Choy

Choy Sum

Pak Choy

time to get some

chop the garlic

tiny slice

add the choy’s

fry up nice

----------------------

August 16th

Oh Peanut Butter Bucket

day after unrelenting day

we commune

as I take and scrape from you

you ask for nothing

and still I look forward

to the day of your

emptiness ….

in this emptiness

I replace you

with excited fervour

Oh Peanut Butter Bucket

Forgive Me!

---------------------------

August 17th

Delicate Ocean breeze

Humming in the folds

Of Early morning splendor

Whispers of

Seduction

Kissing my skin

To an unfamiliar

Arousal

--------------------------

August 18th

Gypsy Princess

Dancing with abandon

Always Kissing the eternal

Tell me tales

Of your journey

Teach me the secrets

Of the everywhen

--------------------------------

August 19th

The gentle flutter of your

Turquoise wings

Unceasingly captures

My attention

Embrace the Flower

you have come to rest

For soon you will

Return to

the everywhen

-----------------------------

August 20th

Tip-toeing

On each

Tight-rope imagining

Delicately weaving

Unique patterns

Brusing away

Multitudes

Of Murky tidings

In this ethnosphere

We call life

-------------------------------

August 21st

Rattle of keys

 " " In the door

Eternally

Awaiting your return

You left long ago …..

……Is it really you ?

Perhaps i’m floating

In the seams of lucidity

Once again

---------------------------

August 22nd

Exhaustive rhythm

Clutches relentlessly

Blanketing the continuance

Why? How? What? Why?

Can you please

Take the batteries out of my brain

So I can know

No-mind

-----------------------------

August 23rd

pop jumps the toast

dollop of butter

twist the yellow lid

lashings of Aussie Vegemite

as it lands upon my screaming tastebuds

i wonder why

oh why

the rest of the world

dislikes you

------------------------------

August 24th

watching like a voyeur

manoeuvring through each motion

day after day

noticing cracks

splitting mind

your refusal to mend

you acknowledge

but

refuse to mend

i have always found this

perplexing

-------------------------------

August 25th

with the distance

between us

eternal friend

you "

always there

etched in my soul

camping out

by the fire

keeping me warm

a reminder of

the love that is love

above love

----------------------------------

August 26th

having spent

a multitude of moments

in a distant past

worrying about

perceived ineptitude

in coping mechanisms

within the world

i slapped myself

and woke up

to a brand new

day

after day

after day

to realise

life is far too short

if wasted in the perception

of the state we humans created

called ‘worry’

which means that

each day finds me

dancing in a lullaby

of being

---------------------------------

August 27th

triplets

panda’s

enter the world

cared for by humans

desperate for their survival

I wonder what their life

will entail

if they survive

only to be caged

in a zoo

------------------------------

August 28th

locked away

mistake made

many a year ago

i was young

thinking I knew the world

how wrong could I be

mistake made

and now I pay my penance

 " of 25 to life

-----------------------------

August 29th

We are all criminals

Unwittingly stealing

Interpretations of life

Blinded to the endless possibilities

of returning home

to the original thought

---------------------------------

August 30th

After the rain

it is hard to contain

a new kind of Cockerspaniel game

he loves a good sniff

the rain permits a fresh whiff

Dodger! yes Dodger " that’s his name

----------------------------------

August 31st

‘Oh hello

Man stopped alongside me

at the traffic lights

Why are you grinning such a big grin

in my direction?

I will counter your grin

with a devilish smile

and together

we can play cat and mouse

a few seconds more’

It's interesting to see how the poems are generally short and sweet when large numbers of them are required.

As usual harlequin, some lovely lines dot your landscape.

What a wonderful collection of poetry...and I love the idea of this!! Of course my writing has been sporadic of late so I doubt I could write something every day for a month!! ;-)

thanks Richard .. certainly fun ... great receiving them too :)
The calendar of the soul, Here we have for the month of August, some full of spontaneity, others , profound, some funny some not so. It is a tough proposition to portrait a whole month full of poems.
Spontaneous writing at is best.

Thankyou
