Hanging on a Pendulum

Hanging on a Pendulum

A Poem by KWP
"

Learning to walk through our life lessons

"
We hang on - don't we ?
With all our might
We hang on to that we are loosing
Prepared to fight the fight

Desperate emotions
Overtake our soul
We cling vehemently
Our mind not staying whole

Watching on as our lives
Slip and slide away
Yet we hang on like a pendulum
In hope it swings back our way

Alone traipsing among our thoughts
Contemplating the wrong turn
Replaying each scenario
Refusing to understand and learn

I am the victim !
We shout - Life has treated me sour!
Refusing to listen to our own being
Refusing to take back our own power

Rolling in self pity
Tossing in our sorrow
Proclaiming our misfortune
Unsure how to face tomorrow

------------------------------------------

Remembering a great storm
Passing through our essence
Unleashing smoldering fury
Not permitting convalescence

Until one day we looked up
To crystal blue clear skies
The storm had left us
We look now with fresh eyes

No longer the victim
Realizing life will continue
Looking back over our shoulder
With a new strength within you

Suffering pain
Is a part of this life
Learning to let go
Whilst observing our strife
That's the key, that's the key
Only the strong know its true
They have suffered, but learnt
Like we all must learn to do

Balance is the key
Tricky to attain
When we learn to let go though
We get to start fresh again

What baggage do you keep ?
What is bearing your load ?
Cast it off into the wind ....
It's time to let go

Many people do go over past decisions in their minds and second guess themselves. Obviously you believe we all have free will and the power to control our destinies. While that may be true to a certain extent, fate and circumstance tend to have their way even when plans are made with the best of intentions. Letting go is an interesting concept. The truth is, though, we are the sum total of all we have experienced in life. We need not dwell on past pain or mistakes, however, they are part of us. Experience molds us. That’s the truth.
You have expressed your thoughts well in this poem. There is one small correction. I believe you meant to say, "we hang on to what we are losing" in line three of your write. Lydi**

"Hanging on a Pendulum"
KWP,
Just a few of the lines which really held meaning
for me personally:
"suffering pain
is part of this life
learning to let go...
When we learn to let go though
We get to start fresh again"
Lovely reminder that life challenges are understood by all. This poem is like permission
to not be ashamed for the struggles and challenges which are just the black and white backdrop of life!
Thank you for a thoughtful and balanced look at this journey.
blessings,
Kathy

Hello Kathy and Happy New Year - you do like to find the oldies don't you :)

i don't think it is "wishy washy" at all ..you are trying to cover a lot of ground and encapsulate it ..not easy ...life's difficulties and our emotional responses can get pretty complex ..for me this is most pivotal:
" Alone traipsing among our thoughts
Contemplating the wrong turn
Replaying each scenario
Refusing to understand and learn"
boy oh boy ...so easy to get snagged in that very unproductive cycle ..and self loathing so slyly creeps in ... in my life i remember the moment i took responsibility for all my decisions .. even those as a child .. i was around 21 yrs old .. in New Mexico ... contemplating ;)
so i have fortunately for me avoided the blame thing for the most part ... but all the rest ...very relatable to me ...we can take the letting go advice to heart and be much better off ...ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ;)

Sorry to creep your page but I am intrigued by your mindset. I like this write. You know a person has grown when they learn this "balance" you're speaking of. I look back at some of the people who fail to understand such rational thought and no longer wonder why that have grown stagnant.

I, for one, found no "wishy washy" in here, I believe what I found was the thoughts of a person that has after deep reflection, learned that what has happened cannot be changed, and that in the future other trying events and situations will crop up, and is better prepared to meet them head on now.
Well written, sensible, and enjoyable.
I like this very much.

A fair morality play, trying to build on hope and personal growth. But leaving the platitudes aside, what do YOU think and feel?

lovely poem, i love the concept of letting go because everyone can relate, at some point we all have to stop holding on and just surrender. that's one of life's greatest moments, though i don't usually like reading rather long poems, this one had my attention right to the last word. well written. i enjoyed it.
