"No Postcode Envy"

"No Postcode Envy"

A Poem by KT-B

"No Postcode Envy"

Stands alone, waving them off
Wants to chat, gives a small cough
Ignored again, the others descend
Leaving her lonely, without a friend

She gazes after, they enter a caff
Having a chat, having a laugh
She walks past in the pouring rain
By herself, she must remain

With her youngest, softplay she goes
Once there, no-one she knows
Pairs of mums, happily engage
To her child she reads page by page

Finally at the school gates
Enters a convo, suggests some dates
Coffee at hers, after school play
Frosty silence and looks, said no way

When she walked away, she overheard
"have you seen where she lives, how absurd"
They turned abruptly and walked head to head
Nothing more could she hear, they had said

She knew how they felt about her neighbourhood
Didn't get it though, her neighbours were good
Never had a bit of trouble in all the years there
To judge on a postcode is just so unfair
