Converations With Dad

Converations With Dad

A Poem by KT-B

"Conversations With Dad"

Honesty, humour, memories and more
Advice, morals, stories galore
Crosswords, puzzles, music, laughter
Hearing about the war, the days after

I miss our chats Dad
All the laughs we had
Your conversation fascinating
Enlightening, intelligent, liberating

I wonder what you would say
If you were still here today
Never been a time in history
World's leaders are a mystery

Brexit, terrorism, Syria's demise
If  you could see this through your eyes
What would you say about climate change?
What would you do to rearrange?

I know you'd have thoughtful insights
And we'd put the world to rights
I chat to you still, though you're not here
My own way of keeping you near.

Your poem is a beautiful tribute to your dad and the conversations you used to have with him. The sense of loss and longing you feel - "I miss our chats Dad" - is palpable, and the way that you describe his conversation as "fascinating, enlightening, intelligent, liberating" is a testament to his character. The lines "what would you say about climate change? What would you do to rearrange?" are particularly poignant, as they suggest that your dad was someone who cared deeply about the world and its future. Overall, I think your poem is a powerful reminder of the importance of family, conversation, and the memories we hold dear, and a testament to the enduring power of love and connection.
