a tribute to my favourite hymn

"Amazing Grace"

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound

Many covers I have found

have been listening to, all week long

So imagine my surprise when they sung that song

at church last night, they rarely do

It's like Jesus heard and knew

that I'd been saying daily prayers

to wash away my fears and cares

and praising him, with Amazing Grace

he shone his light upon my face

and washed away my fears and cares

inspiring me to say more prayers

the priest spoke of that burn in your heart

when something happens, that makes you start

to fully believe in the power of faith

In God's heavenly words, I bathe

"I am the light of the world" he said

Those words are implanted in my head

No more in the dark, I shall be

God has lit the way for me

AMEN

Poingnantly poetic and endearing compostion; with the message that forgiveness and redemption are possible regardless of sins committed and that the soul can be delivered from despair through the mercy of God,. "Amazing Grace" is one of the most recognizable songs in the English-speaking world. A Christian hymn published in 1779, with words written by the English poet and Anglican clergyman John Newton (1725–1807), still relevant today!

very true, I took part in the Alpha course some years ago, it's questions of God and religion it was fascinating and strengthened my belief, if you ever get a chance to go I'd recommend it - it's not too heavy :)

Love that hymn but me and religion are the most uneasy bedfellows so the tune and lyrics are appreciated for what they are and not what so many others read into them

yes it's a beautiful hymn, I could listen to it all day long, - thanks for reading Gee, I wrote this to remind me of how I felt at the church last night as it was quite an uplifting experience - but it's a personal thing, ,each to their own, I think :)
