Left to my own devices

Left to my own devices

"Left to my own devices"

 Full of good intentions,

going to clean the house

Started in my room,

 found my favourite blouse

Tried it on, to see what it went with,

 clothes strewn all around

buckles, belts, rings and things,

oh dear what a bloody mess

Didn't know I had so much stuff,

should really have much less

The next day I started again,

give the kids rooms a blast

 the phone went,

 someone from the past

did I want to meet up?

 go for a walk?

get a coffee have a wee talk?

Sure, I said, surveying the mess

 I was about to leave

fresh air would do me good

I made myself believe

Another day gone, still nothing done

today I would lock myself in

pull my socks up

 clean until I was thin

before I started writer's café

 was calling my name

So I went in for a minute, lasted few hours

was a terrible shame

So I've achieved nothing this week

well to do with cleaning

catching up with a friend, reading new writes

it has a deeper meaning

the house can wait!

Absolutely. Some days it's better to let that stuff go. Of course, if the pile moves and you are the only one in the house, it might be time to take care of it, just saying.

agree 100% - life's too short to worry about such trivialities but sometimes we really have to lol :.. read more
Ha! Been there seen it done it. But I always get round to the cleaning and chores as my Catholic guilt catches up with me. Nicely expressed and you capture the sentiments well.
