Thick as Thieves

Thick as Thieves

A Poem by KT-B

Thick as Thieves

Streets we played

jeans were frayed

clothes always the same

it was but a game

Terrible two on the rampage

pretty immature for our age

hanging at the swing park

eating chips after dark

Laughing til we ached

school days we faked

sneaking out to parties

thinking we were smarties

visiting our grans

we were their biggest fans

joined drama just for you

something I couldn't do

Getting up to no good

being cheeky, being rude

laughing as we fled

no right in the head

getting into trouble

you were my double

but with strong beliefs

no longer thick as thieves

*************

In those heady days many impulses are at work. We can't fend them off completely and dabbling in other things often reduces our willpower to even try.
I had a huge gang of friends which helped reduce the likelihood of such deep binary connections but its different for guys right?
It was positively expected to make a move on your mates girl - unless they are engaged/married.
I'm glad you made up - to some extent but some things have lifelong effects.
Who can't relate to this one?
Honest piece K. T.

So much here parallels my youth. Always up to something with our sidekicks. This was a fun trip for me down memory lane.

Friendship and youth make such wonderful companions - and memories!

A touch of nostalgia and sadness weaving through memories, here. Find those final two lines touching because there could be such an unhappiness playing the heart there. Whilst your meter goes towards the end, I find this a quite remarkable poem.. a tale with a twist in its tail as it finishes.
