This is a modern world

This is a modern world

A Poem by KT-B

This is a modern world

It feels like yesterday I was a teen

Getting up to this and that, going unseen

Experimenting with drink and meeting boys

Going to house parties and making noise

My parents never knew what I got up to

I think it was right that they never knew

Nowadays kids can't do anything at all

Their parents are far too on the ball

Checking their facebook page and all that

Finding out things and reading their chat

Parents texting other parents, spying on their kids

Looking for signs of drugs in heavy eyelids

It's a modern world now, things have changed a lot

Violent computer games, make kids care not a jot

It was scientifically proven, empathy they cannot feel

Spending so long on xbox, they don't know what is real

Virtual friends and virtual games is this a modern life?

How will they ever get to meet a real husband or wife?

When I was young I was never in, out hanging with my pals

Made a tarzan up the park, for all us guys and gals

Knocking on doors and running away, immature but fun

and when the old bag in 30 came out, she made us freakin run

Smoking in alleys, telling scary stories in a phone box

a crowd of us, deliriously happy with our juice and chocs

Simple times in may ways, today is more hi-tech

In this modern world, you have to keep in check

with advanced technology or you'll be left behind

But for some older folks, it's too much for the mind

Folk on facebook painting pictures of a perfect life

Never telling everything, avoiding any strife

So in a virtual world, perfection can be achieved

Only if their fakery can truly be believed

What kind of a fool do you think I am?

I think you've done a great job covering the subject, and with terrific rhymes. I suspect I'm much older than you, so you might imagine how this modern age befuddles me. I've learned to operate a computer, sure, but my heart still lies in the fifties and sixties. Very nice work.
