Just Wow

Just Wow

an ode to great writers

"Just Wow"

Have you ever heard a song or read a book

That's made you take a second look?

The words, so clever, effortless, you wish you'd thought of it yourself

A clever song or book, the knowledge full of wealth

I like to watch "songwriters" and hear how they write their stuff

When they share their stories, I can never get enough

Simon and Garfunkel, Kathy's song, about his wife

"I am a rock", a man's lonely life

Songs to which one can relate

Could listen to them, til it gets late

Today was watching Carly Simon interview

talking about how her songs, old and new

how I love that line, "I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee"

In that song, your so vain

Last week was Bill Withers, forgot how many greats he had

Ain't no sunshine, makes me sad

but lovely day and lean on me

will always be genius songs, download free

Funny how a song, like a smell can take you right back

You can remember exactly how you felt, when you first heard that track

With books and songs, one may never feel alone

Just chill out, get in the zone

and folks of all ages love the Beatles! X

Really fun! Great idea for a poem - I could totally relate to the feelings and to the artists and songs you include. I think it could use another stanza - mainly because I was feeling nostalgic and wanted to read more. The rhythm was a bit confusing - sometimes there, sometimes not, so I would try to nail down something regular or not at all. Cheers!

absolutely!
Well done, KT. There is always something about that song from our youth that transports us back. Play Bobby Vinton's 'Blue Velvet' and I'm at a sock hop all over again. Too self-conscious to be a good dancer then. Good write

"Songwriters", the song in "Kathy's Song", sunshine in "Ain't No Sunshine", "Lovely Day", and "Lean On Me" are wanting capitalization, as well as the beginning of all stanzas. I did think that the rhythm was lost on me in some parts, but I love the subject matter. I'm working on a poem right now dedicated to Carol King and James Taylor, but a few of my other favorite music artists are wanting to get in there as well; I'm having a difficult time doing them the justice I think they deserve. Tribute poems are the most difficult to write in my opinion, because I can never get out all the things I want to say while keeping a disciplined rhyme and rhythm scheme together; I usually just fumble through words as though I were face to face with my heroes! Now I'm going to go home and turn on the record player, I think Seals and Croft will be a good choice for tonight. :)

Like this. We all have fav songs which transport back to both good and sad times. Peters and Lee, "Welcome home " always reminds me of mum coming home from hospital when I was but a child

Love this.
A well written song can make you laugh, cry and everything in between.
'I will survive' is one of my favs. It brings me back to a Friday night disco when I had my first kiss.
