In the 70s

In the 70s

life was sweet in the 70s

"In the 70s"

I was born in 1970, seems so long ago

When the summers were hot and in winter thick snow

Life was pretty amazing,  born into a big happy fam

Money was tight but as long as we had bread and jam

I never even noticed untilI started high school was a teen

that we never had as much as other folk had seen

On Saturdays we'd all get up and watch some TV together

Champion the wonder horse, Zorro and birds of a feather

Little house on the prairie was a favourite of us all

My brother Rab gret the most as I can recall

We'd all point at him at sad bits whilst the tears did flow

Me and my brothers and my sister Jo

Later on we'd all play out in the street with shared pals

All the kids together all the guys and gals

Hide and seek we'd play it would go on for hours

Even in the the rain and in the april showers

We'd be out our house til shouted in for tea

We'd be in the park by then on the tarzan full of glee

Muddy and dirty and exhausted we'd eventually return

Mother's face was lived as her tea began to churn

After baths and jammies on cuddle beside Mum and Dad

Watch a film with them, maybe funny maybe sad

Then brothers would stand by the door

We're away to the pub they'd say jeans flared and to the floor

They said me and Jo could hang out in their base

as long as we tidied it first this was always the case

And any money we did find we were allowed to keep

And my brother Chris made sure there was plenty he was never cheap

We'd lie on there beds watch their TV, smoke their disregarded cigs

Sing our hearts out, learn a dance and do some awful jigs

Innocent days I treasure so dear

We'll never see again that is so clear

Now we all married and have our own fams

but we still as close as fine bread and jams

I'll always look back fondly and wish I was there

Back in the 70s without a real care

I enjoy your storytelling immensely. Were you a big ABBA? I also grew up in the 70's. I remember playing kick the can til dark with all the neighborhood kids. Little House on the Praire, huh? I was love with the older sister who had beautiful blue eyes. Oh, that Nelie was a stinker.

"In the 70s"
KT-B,
How nice to be able to enter into another's life through a story like this. differebt views and ecperienves in the same time but in different countries was refreshing to see and contrast. I can identify with your family as love and togetherness were a reality. My dad was a hard worker as was my mother. It takes a lot to raise children then as now. I remember helping in the garden, canning, cleaning the house, chores and etc. A home does not run itself. I was the oldest in my family so I was also the babysitter sometimes.
Loved your beautiful story!
Blessings,
Kathy

I like this KT..I was born in the 80s, 1987, but this still brings back a sense of nostalgia for me, as well. The flow of the poem was really tranquil and even-keel, with a steady rhythm that allowed the imagination the time to drift back to the past and re-live those glory days. Very nice!
