Stars of the Silver screenA Poem by KT-Btribute to the stars gone by"Stars of the silver screen" Sometimes when I'm bored and there's nothing on TV I go to catch-up and get downloaded stuff for free My favourite has to be Sky Arts and their "discover" programme I pour myself a cup of coffee, hot muffin, butter and jam and settle down to be transported back with stars of yesterday Robert Mitchum, Burt Lancaster, Lana Turner, Doris Day Who knew that Vivien Leigh screamed her head off on the stage and it was no performance it was her own actual rage apparently she suffered from bi polar all her life which made her a difficult actress and I'm sure a difficult wife It was said that's why she chose acting so she didn't have to always be herself I honestly never knew she suffered from mental health Then you've got Marilyn Monroe a simple soul at heart Who's acting was not that great it's a wonder she got a part Used by men all her life and her mother was off her head No wonder at an early age, poor Marilyn was dead Her public affair with Kennedy did not help a bit It's such a shame her life played that way and could not have been re-writ So many stars I admire so they don't make them like that these days Like Elizabeth Taylor who lit up the screen like a blaze And Cary Grant, that handsome, charming fellow Who's looks good be quite smouldering and his voice so mellow Fred Astaire and Ginger, Humphrey Bogart and Bacall Frank Sinatra, Grace Kelly, these people gave their all So thanks to the stars of the silver screen For making all these movies many I've not seen You all had style and grace and a timeless style And Doris Day's clumsiness always makes me smile The coolness of Bogey no-one could deny the beauty of Audrey Hepburn sure made one sigh I'll never tire of watching their glory Not only that also hearing their story ****************** © 2016 KT-BFeatured Review
